Geo data – support for researchers

Technical Expertise Network

Welcome to the Technical Expertise Network (TEN), a TeamSite for researchers from across the faculty to share their technical skills and network between departments. The TEN has been preconfigured with channels for Python, R, GIS, High Performance Computing (HPC), and a general programming channel for those using languages like Matlab or Fortran. We are also looking to start user groups for Python and R to share research, libraries, and learning these languages.

The Geo Data Team created this team for you to network with other researchers in the faculty creating connections based on technology used to achieve our research goals. We have heard from PhD candidates and other researchers that it is difficult for them to contact their peers within the faculty, and who may be able to assist them with a technical problem they may be having. The Geo Data Team created this team  for you to network with other researchers in the faculty creating connections based on technology used to achieve our research goals.

Join the TEN!

You can use the TEN to:

  • Share your code
  • Ask for help from your colleagues on code
  • Join an R or Python User Group
  • Find Learning materials to grow your coding skills
  • Use Open Science Framework (OSF) to organize and share your data in projects

Explore the channels in this team, we have created a few initial channels to get the conversations started especially on the topics of Python, R, OSF, and GIS. If you have a channel you would like to suggest, then suggest in the General chat of TEN. We will review the channels and their activity levels periodically, to assess how better to improve conversation and networking between researchers in the faculty.

Many researchers in the faculty are using Python and R, and in their respective User Group channels. We have surveys to gauge the interest in regular Python and R meetings! Please fill out the survey linked in each channel.
