Yoda Web Portal
Yoda web portal for the Faculty of Geosciences is accessible at https://geo.yoda.uu.nl, and internal users can sign in using your SolisID and password, external user email address their chosen password. On the main page of Yoda after logging in you see two tabs; Research and Vault. The “Research” space is designed for active project data, where researchers can store, manage, and collaborate on datasets throughout the lifecycle of a project. It supports ongoing work and allows easy sharing and version control among team members. The “Vault” space, on the other hand, is intended for the long-term preservation of data that is no longer actively used but needs to be retained for future reference, compliance, or archival purposes. Data in the Vault is typically read-only and stored with enhanced security and integrity checks to ensure its longevity.
Research Space
All the Yoda folders you can access are listed under the “Research” tab. Once you open each of them you see the contents of the folder.
In the “Research” space you can upload and download files and folders. Also basic operations like create, delete, rename, move, and copy files or folders can be executed using the buttons on the tab menu on the right side and in the data object menu, which can be found by clicking on the three dots button at the right in the same row as where the file or folder is mentioned.
Next to the name of the research group, you will find 4 buttons – metadata, create folder, upload, and actions.
- By clicking the ‘Metadata’ button, a metadata form appears. You can insert metadata in every subfolder if needed, however, it is mostly done in the main folder.
- By pressing the ‘Create Folder’ button, a folder will be created in the folder you are in now, and you will be able to give in the folder name.
- By selecting the ‘Upload’ button, you can either upload a single file from your local device to the Yoda folder or an entire folder containing one or more files or subfolders. Alternatively, you can drag and drop one or more files or a folder directly from your computer into the area below the grey bar on the screen.
- By clicking on ‘Actions’ you will find the following options: lock, submit, clean up temporary files, check for compliance with policy, show checksum report, and go to the vault.
- Selecting ‘Lock’ will make all the files in the current folder read-only.
- Clicking ‘Submit’ will prepare the current folder and its data for inclusion in the vault, which is an intermediate step before publishing this data.
- Clean up temporary files (such as thumb.db or _DS.Store).
- Check included file formats for policy compliance.
- Retrieve checksum reports.
Also, on the top right, there are two more options:
- Go to vault: Redirect to the Vault space of the current Yoda folder
- Go to group manager: Redirect to the group manager settings where you can manage sharing of the Yoda folder and granting access to others.
The use of the aforementioned options is explained in the Data workflow in Yoda section.
